About Practitioners

A Religious Science Practitioner is a licensed professional who has been trained to use the art and skill of Spiritual Mind Treatment or Affirmative Prayer to help people meet challenges and grow in spiritual understanding. Our founder, Dr. Ernest Holmes, writes, “Treatment is the time, process and method necessary to the changing of our thought.  Treatment is clearing the thought of negation, of doubt and fear, and causing it to perceive the ever-presence of God.”   Practitioners live, demonstrate and practice Spiritual Truth and the principles of Science of Mind to the best of their ability. They are trained in affirmative prayer to help you correct physical, emotional or mental difficulties in your life.  The McHenry County Church of Religious Science grants the license to practice as a  practitioner of Religious Science after completion of four years of prescribed courses (accredited by Emerson Institute) and pass a written exam and oral panels.   Practitioners abide by an established Religious Science Code of Ethics.

Spiritual Mind Treatment is based upon the belief that we are surrounded by a Universal Mind, which responds to our thoughts according to the law. Through the use of a scientific technique, spiritual mind treatment, (also known as affirmative or scientific prayer), meditation and “the law of attraction.”  the individual's consciousness (our belief about our self) is changed, thereby causing a change in our body and affairs. We learn these creative principles to create: health, abundance and love in mind, body and total life experience.

In addition to their services to individual clients, the Practitioners participate on a voluntary basis in the following:

Our professional Practitioners are also available for a full session by appointment. A full session lasts 30 to 45 minutes.  Each session consists of three parts: listening, teaching, and praying.  This format will help you to understand your problem and its cause. Then, through Spiritual Mind Treatment,  the Law of Mind and Spirit is set in motion to correct the problem. You will be guided in the control of your life and affairs through right thinking and spiritual understanding. The relationship between you and your practitioner is one of complete confidence and freedom at all times.   There is a fee of $40 for these sessions, although no one is turned away because of an inability to pay.  The practitioner will then do daily treatment for one week following the session.
